Over 90 per cent of all businesses in Australia and NZ are small businesses. Most small businesses are run by one owner who oversees virtually all aspects of the business. Only 50 per cent of small businesses survive the critical first three years of operation. The impact of new technology, increasing competition and the accessibility of new markets through e-commerce and the internet have been a catalyst for new ways of doing business. In this story of one small soft drink and cordial factory that has been operating on the banks of Australia's River Murray for 131 years, a failure to embrace change has sadly led to the company's demise.
