Job simplification alternatives

Alternatives to job simplification include:

  • job rotation — which increases task variety by periodically shifting staff between jobs involving different tasks
  • job enlargement — which increases task variety by combining two or more tasks previously assigned to separate staff into one job to be performed by single employees
  • job enrichment — which increases a job’s depth by adding work planning and evaluating duties, previously performed by a manager or supervisor, to the employee.
