Job simplification

Job simplification has the highest degree of specialisation and standardised work procedures, with people (or even machines) performing a clearly defined and very narrow range of tasks. Potential advantages of job simplification include:
- relatively easy and quick to train staff
- staff are likely to be less difficult to supervise and/or easier to replace
- expertise may be developed more quickly through staff task repetition.
However, potential disadvantages of job simplification include:
- lower staff job satisfaction
- higher potential for staff boredom and accompanying issues of higher error rates and/or absenteeism.
