Herzberg's two-factor theory — Hygiene factors

Hygiene factors, according to Herzberg, are found in the job context. That is, in the actual work setting. Examples include working conditions, interpersonal relations, organisational policies and salary. He argued that hygiene factors are sources of potential job dissatisfaction and that the work setting is more likely to be a dissatisfier than the actual work itself.
