The integration of the 2 signals in the 1H NMR spectrum of a ketone (C7H14O) gives the intensity ratio 6 : 1. Determine the number of H atoms giving rise to each signal and propose a stucture for C7H14O.
The intensity ratio of the two 1H NMR signals is 6 : 1 or 12 : 2
so there are 2 sets of equivalent H atoms: one set has 12 equivalent H atoms (Ha)
and the second set has 2 equivalent H atoms (Hb) so the structure is:
