Functional structures

Functional structures are characterised by people with similar skills — and who perform similar tasks — grouped together into work units. The diagram shows an extract from a functional organisational chart for a bank. In a detailed organisational chart for such a bank, staff working in each function would be similarly grouped under the functional area headed by each respective manager.
