Matrix structures
Matrix structures combine aspects of functional and divisional structures. For example, in the structure shown in the diagram, workers in this matrix structure (represented by the circles) belong to two formal groups at the same time — a functional group (such as Manufacturing, Engineering or Sales where they would report to the relevant functional manager), and also a project team (where they would also report to Project Manager A, B or C).
